Assad’s soldiers join YPG

Reports show that some of Assad’s soldiers are hiding inside Syria while some others escaped to mountains to fight against the new Syrian government. However, majority of them reportedly joined YPG-led SDF to fight the government while a number of them crossed YPG-controlled areas to go to Iraq.

YPG-controlled areas are now strongholds for regime army, too, says analysts. It also means the influence of Iran and the US in the same area and at the same time. Assad’s soldiers will now use US-made weapons to attack Syrian government, one analyst said.

Another analyst said the new spectrum of fighters in northeast Syria justifies Türkiye and Syria’s plans to destroy the illegal autonomy of YPG as all factions trying to divide Syria hide there.
