The Italian Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy has approved the sale of Piaggio Aerospace, the country’s aviation giant, to Baykar Tech of Türkiye.
According to Turkish media, Baykar, the world’s largest UCAV company, was the best bidder in the tender organized to acquire Piaggio Aerospace, Italy’s long-established aviation company founded in 1884. Baykar won the tender, which witnessed a contentious process, leaving behind its competitors bidding from different countries.
140-Year-Old Giant Company
Piaggio Aerospace, known in the aviation industry as the “Ferrasi of the sky” for its production of P.180 Avanti business jets and aircraft engines, also plays a strategic role in Italy’s defense industry ecosystem with its maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services. With its 140-year history, Piaggio is known for making significant contributions to Italy’s technology infrastructure.
