Confronting Genocide Today by Ione Belarra

Israeli attack killed dozens seeking refuge at hospital. Speaker questions similarity to Nazi gas chambers. Accuses President of complicity in genocide. Calls for enforcement of arms embargo

Mr. President, I think what we are discussing is very serious. Last Sunday, Israel carried out an attack that killed dozens of people who were in tents, seeking refuge at a hospital. What is the difference between this and the gas chambers of the Nazis? I ask you, ladies and gentlemen, and especially the President, is there any difference? There is none.

We, as a country, are complicit in this genocide. You travel the world talking about an arms embargo that you are incapable of enforcing as a government. Your government has continued to supply weapons after October 7, and has purchased arms worth 1 billion euros—1 billion euros, ladies and gentlemen—during this year of genocide. You have allowed the transport of weapons through our ports throughout this year. If you truly believe in the arms embargo, Mr. Sanchez, stop lying and enforce it once and for all.
