The failed coup attempt started when Bolivian army’s armored vehicles surrounded presidential palace yesterday. However, president Luis Arce resisted and called people to take streets. Another call came from former president Evo Morales.

Understanding that the coup will fail, soldiers surrendered. General Zuniga also surrendered and was arrested by the police.

President Arce made a statement after the failed attempt, saying;

“Brothers, I want to thank you. You have mobilized quickly throughout the country… No one can take away the democracy we’ve earned in the streets through the blood of the Bolivian people!”

Yesterday’s coup attempt is the second one in last five year. Bolivia has experienced 190 coups in 200 years.

Bolivia has 21 million tons of lithium reserves—the largest on the planet.
