Gaza waits for civil resistants

GAZA CITY, GAZA - OCTOBER 12: An explosion on a residential tower caused by Israeli raids in the northern Gaza Strip on October 12, 2023 in Gaza City, Gaza. At least 1,200 people, including at least 326 children, have been killed and more than 300,000 displaced, after Israel launched sustained retaliatory air strikes after a large-scale attack by Hamas. On October 7, the Palestinian militant group Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel from Gaza by land, sea, and air, killing 1000 people and wounding more than 2000. Israeli soldiers and civilians have also been taken hostage by Hamas and moved into Gaza. The attack prompted a declaration of war by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Gaza is under Israeli army’s attack. After Hamas’ surprise attack last Saturday, Israeli air forces pounded the city, killing at least 2000 civilians. The assault continues and is expected to be accompanied by a land attack.

Israel’s government has called Gazans to leave the city for their safety. However, the call is regarded as a tactic to sweep up residents so that the Israeli occupation can be realized easily. Analysts say that Gazans may never return back if they leave. Egypt declared that they won’t allow Gazans to move to Egyptian side as it fears Palestinians may remain permanently after the occupation.

After Israel’s mass murders and flattening of the city, some social media users launched a campaign for civil resistance. Users called people from all over the world to come to Gaza and form a human shield to stop Israel’s massacre and likely occupation.

International civil support is expected to deter Israel’s brutal attacks and give a message to Western governments which unconditionally back Israel and ignore civilian deaths.
