The hasgtag #helpturkey topped all trending topics within a few hours on last Monday’s night as more than 2.5 million tweets mentioned it. However, almost all Turks were sleeping at the time #helpturkey was beating all other topics.
Mark Owen Jones has analyzed the tag and revealed that it was not an innocent call for help from the world to extinguish wildfires in Turkey. Here is Jones’ concerning thread.

On the other hand, a participant’s contradictory tweets were conspicuous. The account @_babaremzi_ asked help in one of his tweets. Yet, when he learnt that Qatar is sending civil defense staff to Turkey, he asked why Turkey is asking help from Qatar.
