Iran is blamed for Ismail Haniyeh’s assassination

Hamas’ political bureau chief has been assassinated in Tehran. Haniyeh was in Iran to attend inauguration ceremony of new president Mesud Pezeshkian.

Irainan Republican Guards (IRGC) announced that he and one of his guards were killed in his compound. Confirming Haniyeh’s death, Hamas said he was killed by an Israeli airstrike.

Analysts accuse Iran of not protecting Haniyeh while in Tehran. As per a conspiracy theory, Haniyeh was allowed to be killed by Israel to mend relations.

Similar assassinations were conducted in Tehran in recent times, showing that Iran is vulnerable against Israeli operations.

With the assassination of Haniyeh, two top non-armed group leaders, the other being Fouad Shukr of Hezbollah, were killed by Israel within 24 hours. Since Hezbollah also relies on Iran against Israel, Iran is blamed to fail to protect neither Hezbollah’s commander nor its guest Haniyeh in Tehran.
