Israel has almost neutralized two big armed groups, now it’s the states’ turn

GAZA CITY, GAZA - OCTOBER 12: An explosion on a residential tower caused by Israeli raids in the northern Gaza Strip on October 12, 2023 in Gaza City, Gaza. At least 1,200 people, including at least 326 children, have been killed and more than 300,000 displaced, after Israel launched sustained retaliatory air strikes after a large-scale attack by Hamas. On October 7, the Palestinian militant group Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel from Gaza by land, sea, and air, killing 1000 people and wounding more than 2000. Israeli soldiers and civilians have also been taken hostage by Hamas and moved into Gaza. The attack prompted a declaration of war by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Israel has finally killed Hassan Nasrullah, the leader of Hezbollah for 30 years. Israel has thus killed the leader of Hezbollah after Hamas leader Ismail Heniyya. Unlike Heniyya, Nasrullah’s death has caused mixed feelings in the Muslim world. The killing of Nasrullah by an Islamophobic terrorist state like Israel is difficult for Muslims. Because the murderer Israel is proud of killing the leader of a Muslim organization. Muslims, rightly, are not proud of this murder in the context of their faith.

However, the killing of hundreds of thousands of people in Syria in the name of Shiism by Hezbollah and Iran, led by Hassan Nasrullah, just because they are Sunnis, has caused justified hatred among Muslims. The majority of the Muslim world, especially Syrians, approve of the killing of one oppressor at the hands of another oppressor. And they are right, because imagine that Hassan Nasrullah was assassinated by the Syrian opposition.

In this case, the Shiite bloc would have left no stone unturned in cities like Idlib and killed many innocents. But neither Hezbollah nor Iran made a sound when it was Israel that did the killing. Let’s leave aside the opinions of the Muslim world (especially the Sunnis) and look at the issue from the point of view of war strategy.

According to Marwan Kabalan, a Syrian-born thinker writing in Al-Arabi Al-Jadid newspaper, Hezbollah is paying the price for its neutrality. In an article written before Nasrullah was killed, Kabalan wrote that Hezbollah should have declared war on Israel after the Hamas attack on October 7. Because at that time Israel had divided its army between the West Bank, Gaza and the Lebanese border. If Hezbollah had entered the war, Israel would not only have to concentrate on Gaza, but would also have to fight Hezbollah. Israel would have found it difficult to fight on two fronts and perhaps at some point it would have given up.

But instead of fighting, Hezbollah pretended to fight, firing missiles into empty fields and the sea, not wanting Israel to come at it. When Israel realized that Hezbollah was scared and would not attack, it concentrated on Gaza, where it committed (and continues to commit) genocide and almost destroyed Hamas. In the meantime, it intimidated Iran by martyring Ismail Heniyye in Tehran and then turned to Hezbollah. Thus, instead of fighting the two organizations together, it fought each of them in turn, breaking their influence.

As a result, although Hezbollah wanted to please Israel, it failed to please the terrorist state and perhaps brought about its own demise. Had it gone to war, it and Hamas could have taught Israel a lesson it would never forget. In short, remaining neutral did not change the outcome. In any case, neutrals, naysayers, false heroes have never suffered a different fate than the victims.

Now that the two organizations have been neutralized in turn (as we said, if they had acted together, they would have been heroes), it is time for the countries in the region to act as if nothing has happened. Israel will probably target Lebanon, Syria, Iran and Yemen. There is also the risk of infecting Qatar and Turkey, two countries that have been vocal outside the Shiite group.

Let’s leave Qatar to the Qataris, but something must be said about Turkey. The chances of Turkey confronting Israel are higher than ever. Israel is in a good position both in terms of weapons and intelligence. Especially its intelligence is very strong and this is how it brought Hezbollah and Iran to their knees. It is not known to what extent the Mossad’s network in Turkey has been destroyed, but we must always be vigilant. It is even necessary to be one step ahead. To put it more bluntly, our intelligence should already be in a state of war, just in case.

Whatever our defense industry is going to produce, it must produce it as soon as possible. Since Israel is especially emboldened by nuclear weapons, it is obvious what needs to be done.

On the other hand, our army should also work on war scenarios.

The issue is very serious. If a war breaks out and bombs (especially atomic bombs) fall on this country due to imprudence, the responsibility will be on those who failed to fulfill their responsibilities.
