Türkiye and Saudi Arabia continue to boost their defense cooperation. After ordering and undisclosed number of Bayraktar drones and agreeing to produce them with Türkiye’s Baykar Tech, Riyadh hints that it may order 100 units of KAAN jets.
Haluk Görgün, President of Turkish Defence Industries Directorate, hosted a high-level delegation including Saudi Arabia’s Deputy Minister of Defence Khaled bin Hussein Al-Biyari and Air Force Commander Turki bin Bandar Al Saud in Istanbul a few days ago.
At the heart of the talks is the goal of establishing cooperation in strategic projects such as KAAN and evaluating joint production opportunities.
According to Milliyet, during these critical contacts, which will last for three days, the details of Saudi Arabia’s plan to acquire 100 KAAN aircraft within the framework of its 2030 vision will be discussed.
In line with its 2030 targets, Saudi Arabia aims to increase domestic production in the defense industry and establish strong international partnerships. Turkey’s recent achievements in the defense industry and the national systems it has developed have attracted the attention of the Riyadh administration.
The KAAN project, on the other hand, strengthens the possibility that this interest will turn into an agreement as a concrete step.
