The US is withdrawing from Syria: Pentagon begins preparations

US media claimed that the US Department of Defense has begun preparations to withdraw all troops from Syria, with President Trump and those close to him expressing their willingness.

US broadcaster NBC News made a bombshell claim on the agenda. Two officials from the US Department of Defense told the broadcaster that the Pentagon is preparing a plan to withdraw all its troops from Syria.

The unnamed officials claimed that Trump and officials close to him have recently expressed their willingness to withdraw US troops from Syria, and that the department has begun making plans for a full withdrawal in 30, 60 or 90 days.

Mike Waltz, Trump’s new national security adviser, spent Friday at the US Central Command headquarters in Tampa, Florida, meeting with senior US military leaders and receiving briefings on the Middle East, according to US officials.

A White House official said the potential reduction of US forces in Syria was not the subject of the briefing and was not the purpose of Waltz’s visit. The White House declined to comment on the matter.

Asked at a press conference in the Oval Office last week about the alleged withdrawal of US troops from Syria, US President Trump said, “I don’t know who said that, but we will make a decision on that. There’s enough chaos in Syria, they don’t need us to get involved.”
