Turkey’s Humanitarian Aid Ship Arrives in Somalia

The “Goodness Ship,” organized by Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) and carrying 3,000 tons of humanitarian aid, has arrived in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia. The aid materials were handed over to the Somali Disaster Management Agency in a ceremony, where Somalia’s Deputy Prime Minister Salah Ahmed Jama expressed his gratitude to the Turkish government and people.

A Helping Hand to Somalia

Somalia has been grappling with an escalating humanitarian crisis due to prolonged drought and ongoing conflicts, increasing the need for aid in the country. Turkey continues its support for Somalia. The aid shipment includes food, medical supplies, water purification systems, and shelter equipment, all aimed at meeting the basic needs of thousands of people in Somalia.

In his speech at the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Jama emphasized Turkey’s longstanding support for the Somali people, stating, “The Turkish people have always stood by us. These aids are vital for our population. Turkey’s friendship and assistance are unforgettable in Somalia.”

Turkey’s Humanitarian Diplomacy

In recent years, Turkey has gained recognition for its humanitarian efforts in many African countries. Aid sent through AFAD, TİKA, and other Turkish organizations contributes to addressing crises in the region. The “Goodness Ship” is the latest of these efforts, arriving in Somalia to help alleviate the country’s challenges, particularly in terms of health and food security.

The deep historical and cultural ties between Turkey and Somalia add significant symbolic value to these aid efforts. The Somali people view Turkey’s support as a tangible example of brotherhood and solidarity.
