Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan praised Hamas in his speech addressing to his party members today. He said Hamas is like Kuwayı Milliye forces, the Turkish militant group fighting against enemy to gain independence between 1919 and 1922.
Moreover, Head of Hamas Political Bureau, Ismail Haniyeh will visit Erdoğan this weekend.
These developments are regarded as a gear up in Turkish foreign policy towards Palestinian issue by analysts. The Erdoğan government was criticized for not supporting Palestinians under Israeli genocide enough before local elections, held on March 31. Some voters did not go to ballot boxes due to relatively neutral stance of the government.
President Erdoğan is expected to use a more critical narrative towards Israel and embracing attitude towards Palestinians in upcoming days.
