Türkiye has no plans of buying uranium from Niger, Presidency says

Turkish presidency has said that Türkiye has no plans of buying uranium from Niger.

In a statement, Communication Directorate said;

The claim in some media outlets that ‘Turkey has made attempts to procure uranium, the fuel raw material for the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant (NPP), from Niger’ is not true.

Turkey has not taken any initiative to procure the uranium needed for the Akkuyu NPP Project from Niger.

The Akkuyu NPP Project continues in accordance with the provisions of the ‘Intergovernmental Agreement on Cooperation between the Republic of Turkey and the Russian Federation on the Establishment and Operation of a Nuclear Power Plant at the Akkuyu Site in the Republic of Turkey’ dated 12 May 2010.

Within the scope of the agreement, the Project Company Akkuyu Nükleer A.Ş. (ANAŞ), which is the sole responsible company for the fuel supply of Akkuyu NPP, signed a long-term contract with TVEL, the fuel company of Russian state-owned Rosatom, on 22 December 2017.
