Another striking move was made in Doha, where warships, additional military personnel and F-16 jets were sent. A Turkish-Qatari Joint Squadron was established for the warplanes of the two countries to conduct operations together.
Greece had been experiencing intense concerns about Qatar’s Rafale jets for some time. Greece, which has been expanding its military capacity against Turkey with the support of the US and France, was shocked by a striking development in Qatar. A joint fighter jet squadron was established between the Turkish Air Force and the Qatar Air Force.
The Qatari Ministry of Defense announced the Turkish-Qatari Joint Squadron to the world in the message it shared while announcing the visit of Turkish Air Force Commander General Ziya Cemal Kadıoğlu. General Kadioglu visited Dukhan Air Base, 70 kilometers from the capital Doha. Here, Kadıoğlu met with his counterpart Casim bin Mohammed al-Mannai and received information about the joint squadron activities.
The Qatari Defense Ministry’s statement read as follows:
“Turkish Air Force Commander General Ziya Jamal Kadioglu and his accompanying delegation visited the Turkish-Qatari Joint Squadron at Dukhan Air Base. Kadıoğlu met with Qatar Air Force Commander Casim bin Mohammed al-Mannai.
General Kadıoğlu inspected the operation, training activities and facilities of the joint squadron.” With the establishment of the Qatar Air Component Command in July 2024, the Turkish Armed Forces sent 6 F-16 fighter jets to Qatar.
Following this move, the number of Mehmetçiks was increased at the Tariq bin Ziyad Barracks, which is the center of the Turkish-Qatari Joint Command. Immediately afterwards, 2 of the Turkish navy’s TUZLA class patrol ships were sent to Qatar after setting sail from Aksaz on July 26.
The establishment of the Turkish-Qatari Joint Fleet has now been added to all these developments. Turkish pilots with F-16s will perform joint flights with Rafale, Eurofighter Typhoon and F-15 fighter jets in the Qatar Air Force inventory.
