Limak, which has undertaken the renovation and expansion project of Barcelona Spotify Camp Nou Stadium, has started to receive similar offers from many countries. Ebru Özdemir, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Limak Group of Companies, said: ‘We receive requests from various countries of the world for the construction of stadiums. We have recently met with Colombians. The stadiums in England in Europe are old, and we also receive requests from them. We are also bidding for a stadium in Saudi Arabia.’
Nihat Özdemir, Honorary President of Limak Group of Companies, stated that many factors came together in the acquisition of the project. Stating that they are among the 50 largest contracting companies in the world according to ENR, Özdemir continued as follows
‘Here, the club issued bonds under the leadership of Goldman Sachs in the international market. We are very experienced in project financing. Another important factor is our references. For example, Kuwait Airport is the biggest tender that a Turkish contracting company has won abroad in the history of the Republic. It has now reached a discovery of 6.5 billion dollars. One of our important differences when we entered this tender was our machinery and equipment. We have 6 of the world’s largest tower cranes that we used in our Kuwait project. If you order such a crane, you will receive it at least a year later. Since our tower cranes completed their work in Kuwait, we quickly transferred them here. Stat was delivered to us on 1 June. We unloaded our cranes in August, which was an important advantage for us when we received the tender.’
WE’LL LIFT THE ROOF WITH A ROPE
Limak Group of Companies Executive Board Member Reşit Yıldız stated that the most serious area of the project requiring expertise will be the roof. Stating that when the stadium is completed, it will maintain its title as the largest stadium in Europe with a capacity of 105 thousand 414 persons, Yıldız continued as follows ‘The most important part of the project is the roof structure. The top of the stands will be completely covered with a new roof. The roof area is approximately 45 thousand square metres. We will install the roof over the field and lift it approximately 70-80 metres above the ground with 128 ropes. The ropes will act as steel elements with tensile force. This is the most complex part of this project and requires engineering experience. Photovoltaic panels will be placed on the roof.’
